Studies report the misdiagnosed rate of Shortness-of-Breath
(SOB) is 13%-19%, a common symptom that confounds the correct diagnosis
of heart failure. As a result, the HF misdiagnosis rate of 33%-51%,
primarily due to undiagnosed heart failure. Many factors influence
this high-misdiagnosed rate, one of the most prominent being co-morbidities
with other confounding conditions such as COPD (31% prevalence among
heart failure patients). Clinical studies have demonstrated that
incorrect or delayed diagnosis of heart failure leads to longer length
of stays, increased hospital costs, lower reimbursement, and diminished
clinical outcomes.
